I couldn’t move my body. Eyes rolling in my skull, I tried to take stock of what was happening. Muffled grunts tried to force their way through my numb lips, the result of an internal bellow, only to remained trapped.

Trapped like me.

Where was Risa? Was she in the same sorry state? I couldn’t turn over no matter how much I strained.

Then I heard the words.

“Time’s up, Miss Kelly. Let’s go.”

Heat left my hand as it dropped to the bed.

I heard Risa gasp one word.

“Marcus!”

The bastard finally had a name, but he had much more. He had Risa. Worse, he had Risa and she wasn’t screaming her head off at seeing him.

“What are you doing here? I still have two minutes!” she hissed with barely suppressed emotion.

“You should be in the elevator by now.”

“I was on my way.”

My fingers flexed, weakly scrabbling at the bed.

“Damian?” I sensed Risa over me. “Are you awake? Can you hear me?”

Yes! What’s happening?

“He’s fine, Miss Kelly.”

I’m not fine. I can’t move!

“You told me this would knock him out. I saw his hand move.”

You knew would happen to me? You planned for it to happen to me?

“A reflex. Nothing more. Time’s ticking and we have a schedule. After you, Miss Kelly.”

Don’t you fucking take her!

“In a minute. Marcus, are you sure this won’t hurt him? Really sure?”

Risa don’t leave me!

“Very. He’ll wake up refreshed. Now I really must insist.”

“Wait. I’m not ready—”

“Now.”

I felt Risa’s body leave mine completely. I pushed with all my might to break free, but I could do nothing but scream her name silently as she walked out of my life with another man.

Risa left me, finally doing what she tried to do that last night in my apartment, the one that started this whole path to misery.
